General Notes: Husband - James B. Douds

After completing a course in the local public schools he turned his undivided attention to agriculture, and assuming charge of the family homestead conducted it ably and gave his parents filial care in their declining years. On the farm Mr. Douds erected a residence in 1908, and a commodious new barn in 1912. He has effected other important improvements and carried on his farming scientifically. In addition to following a general line of farming, Mr. Douds raised a considerable amount of stock.
In addition to his agricultural work he was also interested in the mercantile house of J. W. Douds & Co., the leading concern of its kind in Plumville, and one of the largest north of Indiana.
He was independent in his political views, although he always inclined toward the Republican party, especially in national affairs. He served as assessor of his township, and represented the latter on the county board of supervisors. For one term he was a school director. Like his wife he was a member of the Methodist Church, being attached to that congregation at Plumville, and served it as a trustee for forty years or more, and steward for many years. A man of temperate habits, he was a member of the Good Templars society since boyhood.
