General Notes: Husband - Joseph Taylor Gillespie


He received his education in the public schools. After he grew to manhood he worked on the river, building barges and floating coal to the southern markets. During the Civil war he enlisted in Company E, Fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, and was eighteen months in active service and five months in the hospital, after which he was honorably discharged for disability. He was a Republican and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
