He and his wife migrated from Scotland to the United States and came to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the early days of its development. He secured a farm in the then sparsely settled region, and there resided the remainder of his life, successfully operating it. His death occurred in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, in the eighth ward of the city.
