General Notes: Husband - Joseph Pounds

He purchased the family homestead and afterward added to it by pur-chase until at his death he owned about two hundred and fifty acres of the best wheat grow-ing land in Derry township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. In early life he boated salt from the Conemaugh river to Cincinnati and points below that city. But his distinctive occupation was farming. He was an ardent democrat of the Jacksonian school and was a member of the Salem Presbyterian church for nearly seventy years. He persistently declined to hold any office in the church and never would accept any civil office.
