She united, at an early age, with the Presbyterian church in Hightstown, New Jersey. After studying three years in the Female Seminaries at Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and at Norristown, Pennsylvania, she engaged for some time in teaching. Her residence was with her brother, Samuel M. Alexander.
