General Notes: Husband - John Burton Duffield


World War II: Received commission as Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery Reserve, on May 30, 1930, as graduate of reserve officers Training Corps, University of Oklahoma. Promoted to First Lieutenant, on May 30th, 1933. Entered in active duty at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, on July 7, 1942. Sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to attend Battery Officers Course #70 of Field Artillery School. Upon completion was ordered to join the 77th Infantry Division at Fort Jackson, SC. Was assigned to 306th Artillery Battalion (155 MM How.) as Assistant S-3. On January 20th, 1943, was made battery Commander of Battery "C" 306 Field Artillery Battalion and served in that capacity until ordered back to the United States for deactivation.
"Participated in the battle of Guam, Leyte, Kerma Rhetto, Ie Shima and Okinawa; and after Japanese surrender did occupation duty at Hakodate, Hokkadio, Japan. Received Bronze Star, American Theatre Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze star thereon, and World War II Victory Medal, and a Unit Citation. Became a civilian again on February 21st, 1946.
