He was brought to a farm in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, in his childhood and resided on it thereafter. He obtained his education in the township schools and after reaching man's estate devoted himself to agricultural pursuits, his property being one of his father's num-erous farms.
In politics he was a Republican and on the ticket of that party was frequently elected to township offices; he served one year as tax collector and two years as constable.
