General Notes: Husband - Homer J. Muse

He received his education in the schools of his native town and at the New Lebanon Academy. Previous to finishing his academic course he taught school for three years. In April of 1877 he began the study of law in the office of Dodd & Lee, Franklin, Pennsylvania, and during the first year's study was employed at pumping oil wells at Foster's Station in that county, whence he walked to Franklin, a distance of seven miles, bi-monthly to recite to his preceptors and receive instruction. He was admitted to the bar at Franklin, on April 9, 1879, and immediately began the practice of his profession in McKean County, which he continued to do until May, 1882, when he removed to Warren, where he then resided and practiced. He diligently pursued the study and practice of law, and by doing so, and avoiding politics, except to the extent of actively aiding in the nomination and election of members of his party to office, achieved success in his chosen profession.

Five children were born to him and his wife, only one of whom was living in 1899, two sons and two daughters having died in infancy.

On the 3d of March, 1884, by reason of the illness of the district attorney of Warren County, he was appointed by the court to serve as assistant district attorney for one term of court. After attaining years of maturity he resided successively at New Lebanon, Franklin, and Coleville, Pennsylvania, besides Warren. From June, 1879, to April, 1882, he practiced at the bar of McKean County; was admitted to practice in the courts of Warren County in June, 1882, and in September following took up his residence in his adopted county.
