General Notes: Husband - Allen Dunn

He was a native of the North of Ireland, immigrated to Pennsylvania and located in Northumberland County. In 1804 he removed to Mercer County and settled a short distance north of the site of Sandy Lake, where he erected a cabin and cleared a small opening in the forest. He subsequently became quite prominent in political and religious circles. He was one of the organizers of Rocky Spring Associate Presbyterian church, and his name appears on the session book for 1811 as a ruling elder of that body. He served as sheriff of Mercer county from 1821 to 1824, and also filled several other minor offices. [HVC 1890, 810]

In the same year [1804] came Allen Dunn, since prominent in church and political circles of the county. He located a short distance north of the borough of Sandy Lake, Mercer County, PA, where he cleared a tract of land and prepared it for human habitation. [HMC 1888, 587]

The Old Rocky Spring Church of the Associate Presbyterian (or Seceder) denomination, is an object of local interest. It was located by the side of the public road from Sandy Lake to New Lebanon, a mile north of the former town, in a beautiful grove, near a large spring of excellent soft water. Allen Dunn was an elder and also sheriff of Mercer County, and filled other important local offices. [HMC 1888, 588]

He was also a schoolteacher.
