General Notes: Husband - George D. Nicklin

His parents brought him to America in 1833. They first came to Mercer county, PA, where he was reared. He came to Sugar creek township, Venango county, in 1847. Ten years later, he came to Cranberry.

He was educated in the Catholic schools in England and taught a number of years in Mercer and Venango counties, PA. He served as assistant revenue assessor under Joseph Lenhart during the Civil War and for a number of years was a school director and held other township offices. His wife was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and Mr. Nicklin, though formerly a member of the same church, was for many later years unconnected with any church organization. Whilst professing a firm belief in the essentials of Christianity he was opposed to denominationalism. He claimed to be a Republican of the Lincoln, Greeley, Seward, Webster, and Clay type, but was for many years independent, interested only in effecting political reform. [HVC 1890, 1149]

He was a merchant at Salina, as well as a prosperous farmer and oil producer in Cranberry Township, Venango County, PA. [CAB, 619]

General Notes: Wife - Mary M. Eberly

She came to America with her parents when she was six years old.
