General Notes: Husband - Jacob Slagle

His father died when he was scarcely five years old. When he was seven, his mother, with her four living children, went to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, in order to live near her brother, Christian Wolff. In Chambersburg, Jacob went to both English and Dutch schools until he was about sixteen years old, when he went to Washington, Pennsylvania, with Mr. David Eckert, (who married his sister, Susan Slagle,), with whom he remained for four years and three months to learn the saddlery and harness business. From 1809 to 1812 he worked in Pittsburgh, Chambersburg and Steubenville, Ohio. In 1812 he went into business for himself in what was then Charleston, Brooke County, Virginia (later Wellsburg). He remained there for eighteen months, when he sold out and returned to Washington, Pennsylvania, where he established a saddlery and hardware business and lived the rest of his life. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church.
He was one of the original stockholders and directors of the Female Seminary, he was also President of the Washington Cemetery Association, and for a number of years was an Associate Judge of the Washington County courts.

He died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Anne C. McConnell, in East Liberty (later East End), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

General Notes: Wife - Martha Alison

After the death of Mr. McKemey, she returned to her home in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

She died in St. Louis, Missouri, while on her way to Fairfield, Iowa, with the family of F. B. McConnell, to visit her children in Fairfield.
