General Notes: Husband - Michael Shryock Johns

He spent his earlier years at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where his father was a prominent iron manufacturer and merchant. At the age of 16 years he enlisted in Captain S. D. After the war he was, for a time, located in Washington, Pennsylvania, and later was a wholesale merchant in Philadelphia. About 1854 he moved to and settled in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, where for a number of years he was Agent for the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. For three successive terms he was chief burgess of the town of New Brighton. He was a member of the Order of Odd Fellows, and a very prominent Mason and a consistent member of the Methodist Church.
He died at the residence of his son-in-law, E. Pentland Stewart, in New Brighton, Sunday, January 25th, 1885, and was buried with full Masonic rites in the New Brighton Cemetery on Tuesday, June 27th, 1885.
