General Notes: Husband - Hiram Eddy

He was a college graduate, being educated for the ministry. His first charge was in Warren, Pennsylvania, where he was the first regular pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. He was long cherished in the memory of the older residents for he was a most sympathetic and yet powerful pastor. He had a wonderful physique; was six feet four inches, broad-shouldered, and had a very dignified and commanding air. He went as chaplain of a regiment from Canaan, Connecticut, during the civil war. On account of the remarkable stature he was mistaken for an officer, captured and was one of the first ones in Libby prison, where he languished for months before an exchange could be made. After the war he delivered lectures on "Libby Prison," all over the eastern States. He steadily rose in his profession, preached in Brooklyn for some time, and in 1879 he was pastor of a union Congregational church in Jersey City, with a salary of six thousand dollars.
With his second wife and granddaughter, Miss Bailey, of Jamestown, New York, he spent a month at the World's Fair at Chicago, in 1893. He was a conspicuous figure wherever he moved in a crowd, on account of a massive head covered with snow-white hair, and quick energetic walk, quite remarkable in a man in his eightieth year.

He was married twice.
