She was educated in the public schools, Eldersridge Academy and Blairsville College for Women, and then taught public school for two years in Niagara, North Dakota, three years in Puerto Rico, and three years in Medford, Oregon. She later became general secretary of the Young Women's Christian Association, at Hershey, Pennsylvania.
