General Notes: Husband - Thomas Sharp

He and his wife were Covenanters, who, because of their religious faith, were driven from Scotland to the province of Ulster in the North of Ireland, about or shortly after the middle of the seventeenth century, and resided near Belfast, in the County of Antrim, until about the year 1747, when they immigrated with their children, consisting of five sons and four daughters, to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and settled in Newton Township.

Because of their religious faith, they were driven from Scotland and took refuge in the Province of Ulster, in the North of Ireland, living near Belfast, in County Antrim, until their emigration to the New World. Their son, Robert, crossed the Atlantic at a very early age, and soon returned to Ireland to persuade his father to bring the rest of the family over. This could not have been later than 1746, as two tracts of land, one of 2,000 acres and one of twenty, are recorded in the list of land warrants as having been taken up by Thomas Sharp in May, 1746. The family settled in Newton township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [Something seems amiss here, since all the dates of birth for his children are after 1750.]

All of his sons except Alexander were commissioned officers in the Indian or Revolutionary wars; Alexander served as a private.

General Notes: Wife - Margaret Elder

She was the daughter of a Scottish laird.
