General Notes: Husband - William James Quinn

He received his education at the country school of North Fayette Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As boy and man he helped his father on the farm of one hundred and twenty-five acres. As time went on it was discovered that forty-two acres of this property were underlaid with coal known as the Pittsburgh vein. Thirty-two acres of the coal-bearing vein were sold to the Pittsburgh Coal Company, while the other ten acres were worked from time to time by the Quinn family; but were later leased on a royalty. This section of Allegheny County was found to be rich also in oil and gas. In 1912, the first three wells were drilled with success on the Quinn farm, both oil and gas being found at each drilling. These products were sold on a royalty basis to the Cedar Cliff Oil Company. Mr. Quinn's home was on this farm from his birth, through boyhood, and maturer years, it having belonged originally to his mother's relatives. In the early days the farm products were marketed in Pittsburgh some twelve miles away. The place was beautifully situated between Moon Run and Imperial, on the Steubenville Pike, and tradition is that the turnpike followed the ancient Indian trail, which cut over the hills from the point at Pittsburgh so as to shorten the distance to points lower down on the Ohio River. Mr. Quinn was a Republican in political belief. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias of Galey, Robinson Township, and of the Presbyterian Church of that township.
