General Notes: Husband - James Y. English


He grew to manhood in Muddy Creek township, Butler county, PA, and lived with his parents until 1861, when he enlisted in Company E, One Hundred and Thirty-fourth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was severely wounded in the right arm at the battle of Fredericksburg, and was afterwards discharged from the service. He settled on a farm in Franklin township. He filled many of the town­ship offices; in politics, he was a Republican, and was a prominent member of the Zion Baptist church.
