General Notes: Husband - Patterson Espy

He was an early school teacher in Crawford County, PA.
He practiced law more or less in his day; he was also a surveyor and farmer, and cleared a part of the farm later owned and occupied by his son Alexander. During the war of 1812 he was engaged in buying cattle for the use of the American Army.

General Notes: Wife - Mercy Freeman

Her parents were among the first families who settled in Mead Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. At the time of their settlement there were but nine white families in Meadville, and she often played with the Indian children, in her childhood, on the spot where the city of Meadville now stands.
