He and his wife were natives of Ireland, whence they migrated to Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. He worked in a screw factory until 1830, when he purchased a tract of wild timber land in Lawrence township, Clearfield County, developing therefrom a good farm, on which he made his home until his death.
