He attended the public and the high schools. He remained on the farm with his father until he was nineteen years of age, and in 1893 he went to Ohio, where he was employed in commercial work for two years, and from there he went to Valparaiso (Indiana) Normal School, where he attended one year. After this, he entered the Standard Plate Glass Works of Butler, Pennsylvania, in the spring of 1888, where he remained for thirteen years, and then in April, 1902, in association with his father, he started in the insurance business under the name Walter Evans, and after the father's death the name was changed to the Walter Evans Insurance Agency, with the location in the Butler Savings Trust Company Building.
Mr. Evans was a Democrat in his political convictions; and his fraternal affiliations were with Lodge. No. 272, Free and Accepted Masons; and New Castle Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was a member of the Butler Board of Commerce; and his religious faith was that of the United Presbyterian Church.
