The source states that he was born in 1865, but this is impossible.

He read medicine with Dr. James McMullen, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and graduated at the Jefferson Medical College, of Philadelphia, in the spring of 1861. After his return from the Civil War he located in Greenville, removing to Homer City, Indiana County, in 1866.

Civil War: he was for three years in company H, 12th Pennsylvania reserve corps; he was promoted to hospital steward, serving in all three years.
