He was educated in the common schools, and learned the trade of a carpenter with George Moon, and followed that the greater part of his life. He bought thirty acres, and farmed it in connection with the manufacture of doors and sash.
Civil War: He enlisted in Company I, Eleventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served three months.
