General Notes: Husband - John Hamilton

John Hamilton is believed to have been a son of James Hamilton, of Cavanduggan, and Margaret Morris, his wife; grandson of Francis Hamilton, of Tullybrick, County Armagh, and Elizabeth Echlin, his wife, and a great-grandson of John Hamilton, of Hamilton's Bawn, and Sarah, daughter of Sir Anthony Brabazon. John of the Bawn, was a son of the Rev. Hans Hamilton, vicar of Dunlop, in Scotland, whose eldest son, Sir James Hamilton, was the first Viscount Claneboye.

He emigrated to America with his wife and family, and his brother-in-law, Captain John Potter, on the ship "Donegal" arriving at New Castle, Delaware, Friday, September 25, 1741, the day of Mrs. Hamilton's death.

He settled on a plantation at Londonderry, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was a Presbyterian and a man of standing and considerable property. When he died he left to his only son by his second wife, a farm and fulling mill on Sherman's Creek.

He resided on a farm in Chester County, Pennsylvania, which he purchased in 1742, a short time after his arrival in America. At the period of his second marriage he was a well established farmer and miller.

General Notes: Wife - Jane Allen

After the death of her second husband, she lived with her son John at Fermanagh and at Harrisburg, where she died. She was a woman tall, fair, hale, cheerful, intelligent, energetic and highly educated.
