General Notes: Husband - Richard Miles

The Miles family is a Welsh family, Quaker at the time of its settlement in America, but the family soon, at least in large part, left the Quakers, and its members became Baptists. The first settlers in Radnor township, Chester (later Delaware) County, Pennsylvania, were a group of Welsh Quakers, and among these was the immigrant ancestor of the present family.

The founder of this family, he was born at Llanddowi, Radnor, Wales. He was one of the Welsh purchasers of land from Richard Davies, in Wales, in 1682, and probably came to America soon after his purchase. He settled in Radnor township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Although he was originally a Quaker, as was also his wife, they soon affiliated with the Baptists in America, and the meetings of the Great Valley Baptist congregation were sometimes held at their home, until the meeting-house was built in 1722.

He came from Wales to America with William Penn on his second voyage, about 1682.
