He was probably a descendant of John Jacob Eyster, a native of the kingdom of Würtemburg, Germany, who came to America between 1717 and 1727. The family descending from him settled first at Oley, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

He was a hotel keeper at Helen, Pennsylvania. His death was sudden; while he was on his way to his home he was taken with fatal illness and died before help reached him.
