General Notes: Husband - Frederick Leander Stright

He was born on the family homestead and after obtaining a district school education left the farm in 1892 and engaged in the hardware business at Sheakleyville, Pennsylvania. Before his father's death he disposed of his store and assumed the management of the family estate, and at the time of his father's decease bought the interests of the other heirs and came into full possession of the homestead. There he conducted general farming and operated a dairy of about eight cows. Mr. Stright was long identified with the advancement of the educational, fraternal, charitable and religious affairs of his birthplace and home locality. He was chaplain both of the Odd Fellows' Lodge No. 592, of Sheakleyville, and of the New Vernon Lodge No. 608, P. of H. As an active Republican and a good citizen, he always gave a portion of his time to the consideration and conduct of local public affairs, giving service both on the school board and the board of township commissioners. Since his youth he was also an active worker of the Presbyterian Church, and was an elder of that body since he was twenty-eight years of age. [HMC 1909, 1018]

From the age of 28 he was an elder in the Sheakleyville Presbyterian Church. After the church burned in January, 1927, he and his wife joined the Methodist Church. He was considered to be the best arithmetician in the countryside.
