He was a soldier in the Civil war, having enlisted in 1861, in Company I, 84th Reg. P. V. I., and served his country throughout the struggle, and took part in nearly all the engagements in which his regiment participated; once taken prisoner, he was incarcerated for a time in Libby Prison.
