General Notes: Husband - Isaac Fertig

His schooling was very limited. At the age of seventeen he began boating on the Schuylkill canal, and also worked on the Susquehanna canal. In 1832 he crossed the mountains, and worked at his trade of carpenter in Tionesta, Pennsylvania. In 1834 he removed to Pine Grove township, Venango County, then a wilderness, where he bought land, improved and cleared gradually, working in various other ways in the meantime.
