He was a farmer by occupation, and followed that pursuit throughout his entire life. He came to Clarion County, PA, in 1838, and was prominent in public af­fairs, holding a number of township offices. For forty-five years he was a member of the Lu­theran Church, and in his political faith he was a Democrat.
