General Notes: Husband - Sides C. Shoff

He was born and reared on the family homestead farm, and had but limited educational privileges. He worked with his father until 1870, when he married his wife. They began their domestic life on the old homestead, and Mr. Shoff devoted his energies to farming and lumbering. In 1881 he bought that property, and made it his home. In 1892, however, he divided a portion of this into town lots, and sold it to the Berwin-White Co., who operated in coal there on an extensive scale. The village, which was called Becaria, contained about eighty homes, a large hotel, and a school building.
