General Notes: Husband - Edward K. Martin

While receiving his education at Kennerdell, Venango County, Pennsylvania, he was also employed in his father's woolen mill. In 1865, when fifteen years of age, he went with his parents to Utica, Venango County, and three years later to Sheakleyville, Mercer County, where he was employed in various capacities of a clerical nature, and at the death of his father in 1897 succeeded to the proprietorship of his general store. He devoted more than thirty-five years to the continuous development of the enterprise which his father established, and in whose progress his own son, John H., also largely participated. For many years he was
as influential in civic as in mercantile affairs, having been honored with the mayoralty for one term, with membership on the school board for a term and with the village treasureship for ten years. His fraternal connections were with the Odd Fellows' Lodge of Sheakleyville No. 592, and he passed through all the chairs in the local body. [HMC 1909, 991]
