General Notes: Husband - James Clark Rankin


He received his preparatory education at Mercersburg College, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, and attended Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, until 1888. He began the study of the law under the Hon. Francis M. Kimmell, of Chambersburg, and completing his studies under Hon. W. Rush Gillan, was admitted to the Franklin County Bar, in 1891. After practicing his profession at Chambersburg for two years, he went to Mercersburg in 1895, where he then remained in active practice. He was attorney for the borough of Mercersburg and superintendent of the Mercersburg Water Company. In politics he was a Democrat, and he was a Democratic candidate for the Legislature in 1896, and was editor of Mercersburg Journal from 1900 until 1903.
