General Notes: Husband - Gen. George W. Wright


He graduated from West Point in 1822; promoted adjutant, January, 1831-6; captain, October 30, 1836; brevet major for meritorious conduct in the Florida war, March 15, 1842; brevet lieutenant colonel for gallantry at Contreras and Churubusco, Mexico, August 20, 1847; and brevet colonel for gallantry in command of the storming-party at Molino del Rey, September 8, 1847, in which he was wounded; major Fourth Infantry, January 1, 1848; colonel Ninth Infantry, March 3, 1855; greatly distinguished in campaigns against the Indians of Washington Territory, 1856 and 1858; brigadier general of volunteers, September 28, 1861, and commanded the Department of the Pacific from October, 1861, to July, 1864, and the district of California, 1864, to the time of his loss in wreck of the steamer "Brother Jonathan" on a voyage from San Francisco, to Portland, Oregon, July 30, 1865.
