General Notes: Husband - Robert Forsythe

He settled on a farm at the foot of Jack's Mountain, which his father purchased in 1817.

He came to America from Ireland, in June, 1784. He was a blacksmith, and after arriving in the United States found employment near Philadelphia, where he worked for a year. He was frugal, and saved his earnings, which were paid in pounds sterling, and which he invested in fine fabrics of men's wear. With his stock of goods, he made his way to Lewistown, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in mercantile business. By skillful management, he kept adding to his business, increasing his stock in trade year by year. He became largely interested in shipping by wagon to Philadelphia, and by rafting to Baltimore; having besides numerous wagons carrying freight to and from Pittsburgh. He purchased the mill at Yeagertown, and bought more land, until in 1817, he owned a tract of 1,000 acres in Derry township, Mifflin County, part of which was still in the possession of the family at the close of the 1800s. The great-grandsons lived upon that which was warranted June 8, 1762. He continued his mercantile interests up to the time of his death, his store being situated where Dr. Ritz's drug store later stood. Mr. Forsythe was a a regular attendant of the Presbyterian church.

There may be confusion in the sources between generations, between this man and his father - many such difficulties arise, especially when both men have the same name.
