General Notes: Husband - John C. Fortney

He was born in Toledo, Ohio, and was educated in the public school. When a lad of but fifteen or sixteen he learned the blacksmith's trade, and after several years established a shop of his own in Scottdale, Pennsylvania. After a few years he closed his shop and for four years was employed by C. H. Smith, at Trauger. He then became boss mechanic at the Hecla Coke works, remaining there nine years. In the autumn of 1900 he entered the United States Pipe works in the capacity of foreman of one shop. In November, 1902, he purchased two acres of land on which he made his home. He belonged to the Sons of Veterans, Daughters of Liberty, and Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He and his family were members of the United Brethren church.
