He and his brother, S. S. Portser, under the firm name of H. & S. Portser, employed several workmen and used two large buildings, each three stories in height, in their business as contractors, carpenters, house and sign painters, and dealers in lumber, doors, sash, hardware, wall paper, paints, &c. They were also agents for the Adams Express Company.
