General Notes: Husband - Philip Steiner

He learned the trade of hatter during his boyhood with his brother Jacob in the village of Adamsburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He followed this line of work for several years, then gave his attention to agricultural pursuits, and later worked at the trade of tinner, conducting a shop of his own until he attained the age of sixty-five years, when he retired from active business. As early as 1845 he served as supervisor of the township. He was a member and elder for many years in the Lutheran church, and was an adherent of Republican principles.

He came to New Stanton when his son Sylvester was a small child.
