General Notes: Husband - George Frederick Gruninger

His education was obtained in the district school which he attended three months each year until leaving for Akron, Ohio, to learn the carpenter's trade. While in Akron he attended night schools and in this way became very well educated in the common English branches. After finishing his years of apprenticeship, he worked as a journeyman until 1873, when he joined his father in helping to rebuild the town of Medina, Ohio, that had been largely destroyed by fire earlier in the same year. He became a leading contractor and builder of Medina. He was a large landowner, director of the Savings and Deposit Bank of Medina, and a director of the Indemnity Building and Loan Association of Cleveland, Ohio. He was a member of the German Lutheran church of Liverpool, Ohio, and in national politics a Democrat.
