General Notes: Husband - Cyrus Helm

He grew to manhood on the home farm. At the age of eighteen he left home, working for others until he reached the age of twenty-five. In 1882, a few years after his marriage, he came back to his birthplace, where he thereafter lived and worked, making extensive improvements on the farm. He had fine stock on the place. There was a gas well on the farm, gas having been found a very valuable feature, and the product, except what was used for domestic purposes, was piped away by the Phillips Gas Company. Mr. Helm conducted his oil operations with others in the Pennsylvania oil fields. He eventually retired from the more arduous agricultural work, his son operating the farm.
Mr. Helm was so long associated with public affairs in his locality that he was very prominent in that connection. He was honored with election to about all the township offices, giving notably valuable service as justice of the peace, school director and auditor, and in 1895 was elected county auditor. In politics he was a Republican. Like his family generally he was a Lutheran in religious connection.
