General Notes: Husband - James Allison

It is unknown who his father was, but it seems likely that Archibald Allison, Sr., is the first of our Allison Ancestors in America. He came to America in 1773 and went to Centre County, PA, with his whole family. All of the Allisons of that time in Centre County seem to be related.

Archibald Allison, Sr., went from Scotland to Ireland at the suggestion of the King of England who gave him 1,000 acres of land in Ireland. When he tried to ship his products from that land to England, the import tax was so high that he got disgusted and came to America. His family name originally was MacAlastair and probably was changed before going to Ireland, as the Scotch were not well received in Ireland.
