He graduated from Oil City High School in 1888, then proceeded to learn the bricklayer's trade, in which he continued for five years. Next he be­came a student at the Philadelphia Dental College, where he was graduated in 1896 as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He settled at once in Oil City, Pennsylvania, practicing there for over forty years. He was widely known in the city and among members of the dental fraternity, belonging to the Venango County Dental Society, the Pennsylvania State Dental Society and the American Dental Association and being at one time president of the Oil City Dental Society.
He took a lively interest in the affairs of his city and its people and institutions. A Republican in politics, he was a Past Exalted Ruler of Oil City Lodge, No. 344, Benevo­lent and Protective Order of Elks, and a member of Christ Protestant Episcopal Church. In leisure time he enjoyed the out-of-doors, being especially fond of golf.
