After completing a common school education he attended Leech's Business College, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, from which institution he was graduated at the age of twenty-one years. He assisted his father with the varied duties of the home farm until the fall of 1904, when he accepted a position as letter carrier for the borough of Greensburg. In politics Mr. Johnston was a sterling Republican and a willing worker in the interests of his party.
