To him and his wife three sons were born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and one son and two daughters were born in Franklin County, where two little sons died in 1795, of dysentery. In 1798, the parents, two sons and two daughters moved west of the mountains, on two pack horses, and settled in Westmoreland County, near New Alexandria, where two sons and four daughters were born. There were in all twelve children, the youngest of whom was Sarah.
