General Notes: Husband - John Pinkerton


He served in the Civil War from 1862 until the close of the contest, going out as a private but serving most of the time as sergeant. He was in Gen. Thomas' army, Co. H, Fifteenth reg. Pennsylvania Cavalry and took part in the battles of Chickamauga (where he was Gen. Thomas' orderly), Stone River, Mossy Creek, the expedition against Hood and others. At Stony Creek he was captured and held about two months in Libby prison. He later died from the effects of his life in the field and the prison.
