The Gamble family is descended from Ralph Gamel, a man of note in the north of Ireland.

He came from Balibay, county Monaghan, sailing from Belfast, March 14, and landing at Amboy, April 15, 1811. [HWC 1906 iii, 347]

In America the Gambles first settled in Wyalusing, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Soon afterward they bought land in Wilmot township, Bradford County. This land, about five hundred acres, was purchased from Thomas Keeney, the site being later known as Quirks Bend.
