He located on a portion of his father's homestead, and also purchased the Ludwig Praker farm adjoining, on which he lived the remainder of his life.
He was a member of the German Baptist denomination; three of his sons were ministers of the German Baptist Church, one a bishop of that Society; two of his grandsons were also in the ministry.
