General Notes: Husband - Dr. William Stewart, M.D.


He served in civil war as a surgeon, 83rd regiment.

He was a physician of Philadelphia, and one of the founders and for ten years dean and professor of medical obstetrics and clinical gynecology in the Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia. He was also one of the founders and the first vice-president of the American Academy of Medicine and a director of the Charity Hospital of Philadelphia. He was nine years director of the public schools, and was a member of the Philadelphia County Medical Society, the Obstetrical Society, the State Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Geographical Society. He also belonged to the G. A. R. and the Loyal Legion, having served with distinction in the Civil war.
