General Notes: Husband - William Henry Gelbach


He received his education in the district schools, and in Greentown Academy, Perrysville, Ohio. In 1873 he embarked in merchandising at Petersville, Butler County, PA, where he carried on business for three years. He then taught school in Ohio for three years, and in 1880 he entered into a partnership with William H. Ifft, and engaged in the mercantile business at Zelienople. This firm continued in business for six years, when the partnership was dissolved, and the firm of Gelbach Brothers was established. He sold his interest in the store in 1893, and thereafter was engaged in the Gelbach Brothers bank. The family was connected with the Presbyterian church, in which body Mr. Gel­bach filled the office of elder. In politics, he was a Democrat, served in the borough council, and was a member, beginning in 1883, of the school board of Zelienople, and in 1891 he was a delegate to the State Convention.

He was was educated at Perrysburg (Ohio) Academy, and at an early age became interested in the general mercantile business at Zelienople. In 1892 he sold his business and in partnership with his brothers founded the Gelbach Brothers Bank. Later, it was incorporated as the First National Bank and Mr. Gelbach served as cashier for ten years. He was extensively interested in the insurance business at Zelienople for a number of years and served as justice of the peace from 1913 until his death.
