General Notes: Husband - William Gibson

Clay Twp, Butler Co, PA

He was appointed County Treasurer in 1821. He was the candidate for Sheriff of Butler County, Pennsylvania, on the Democratic ticket in 1824. Late in life he was an invalid for many years because of injuries he received in a fall from his barn.

Different sources give different stories of his parentage: He was the only son of James Gibson, (who was killed by the Indians near Cincinnati, Ohio), and came to Butler County, Pennsylvania, in 1797. He was a tanner and farmer, which occupations he followed until his death. [HBC 1895, 1054]

He was born and reared on the farm. He was clerk at the courthouse in an early day, and was an excellent penman and scholar, an elder in the Presbyterian Church.
