General Notes: Husband - William Riley Alter

He attended the public schools, and Parnassus Academy, and acquired his business training in old Duff's College, Pittsburgh. He entered the retail lumber business, and was for several years secretary and treasurer of the New Kensington Lumber Company. In 1902, he opened a real estate and insurance business, which with steadily increasing success became one of the leading enterprises of New Kensington.
Mr. Alter was a Progressive Republican in his political convictions, but aside from using his vote and influence in support of the principles of his party, he never entered into politics. He and his family were active members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
